Thomas Grogan is a certified forensic document examiner and internationally court qualified handwriting expert. He is the president and chief examiner of Forensic Document Laboratory, Inc. based out of Charlotte, NC. He has rendered testimony in deposition and court for North Carolina Civil and Superior Court Divisions in Mecklenburg County. Mr. Grogan has also testified at the Supreme Court in the Commonwealth of the Bahamas.
Thomas Grogan has studied and worked in handwriting since 1997. He has served and completed an apprenticeship under nationally renowned handwriting expert Don Lehew (who has appeared numerous times on the Nancy Grace Show, CNN Headline News, and TruTV). Mr. Grogan received supplemental training and certification from the American Institute of Applied Science in Questioned Document Examination. He also successfully participates in annual proficiency trials in forensic handwriting analysis from LaTrobe University, Victoria, Australia.
Forensic Document Laboratory, Inc. was founded in 2007 and deals with national and worldwide cases involving (but not limited to) questioned and disputed signatures, medical and insurance fraud, anonymous & threatening letters, handwriting and typewriter identification, and altered documents. Mr. Grogan is also a consultant for computer and network security issues.
Forensic Document Laboratory, Inc. has provided services to hundreds of clients ranging from law firms to government and law enforcement agencies. Our caseload has included a wide range of situations including authenticating a Land Deed written in Germany in the 1700s, detecting over $550,000 of forged checks from a trust fund, and the examination of a $92 million contract. Mr. Grogan has also been consulted in a number of high profile cases that have been featured on national news programs. Major clients have included Federal Bureau of Prisons, Federal Public Defenders Office, US Dept of Justice, and Yank Barry (Global Village Marketing International).
Thomas Grogan’s professional associations include FBI Charlotte Citizens' Academy Alumni Association, FBI’s North Carolina InfraGard Chapter, Carolina IT Professionals Group, NC4 CyberCop, North Carolina Association of Private Investigators, and National Correctional Peace Officers Foundation. Mr. Grogan is a graduate of the FBI Citizens Academy and served as an assistant to the president of the FBI Charlotte Citizens Academy Alumni Association, Inc. In pursuit of expanding his company's services into the digital age, Mr. Grogan has recently earned a degree in Network Security with high honors (Summa Cum Laude) and is currently training in computer forensics and digital evidence. He is also CompTIA Security+ certified.
Thomas Grogan also teaches monthly seminars on Identity Theft and it's relation to forgeries/signatures. Mr. Grogan works in close association with Emmy Award winning personal safety expert Dan Starks from NBC6's "Don't Be a Victim" and "Partners Against Crime" segments and Starks Training Institute, Inc.
